<8f79fcda> i’m not speaking about Jesus’ relationship with, or opinion of tax collectors. Jesus proposed giving away possessions voluntarily because a rich man’s love of possessions casts a shadow over the man’s love of God
<8f79fcda> Jesus destroyed the notion that love of God is conditional on your posessions and physical wealth
<8f79fcda> he didnt say “arbitrarily give your things away”
<8f79fcda> he said “give away as much as you need, so that the love of God can flourish in your heart and not be conditional on your wealth”
<8f79fcda> his “give unto caesar, that which is caesar” was a rebuke against the pharisees who accused him of telling people not to pay their taxes
<8f79fcda> in front of Pilate
<8f79fcda> furthermore, under what pretext did jesus say “vote blue so you can take other people’s money to fund abortions” ./smug
<8f79fcda> (yea, that last one is cherrypicking a specific topic)
<8f79fcda> and – yes, the pharisees DID charge people to worship in the Temple of God. which was justified as a Tithe by the old testament. The pharisees forced a tax on the poor to gain access to heaven
<8f79fcda> (looking at you catholics) :glare:
