(*30ec2690*):: a graybeard at stanford led a group working on what they called “the mill cpu” as a novel architecture. The story made the rounds back in 2014, haven’t heard anything it lately. Maybe we’ll see new architectures when more chips get made in America

(*290283ee*):: One of reasons (at least for the compute areas) is that the architecture has tapped out since 2004 or so. In my opinion the computer establishment is unable to think out of the box architecturally, so I welcome progress of the “one funeral at a time” variety.

(*6952cd93*):: I’m really looking forward to that clockless architecture you talk about. I wish it were as fashionable as quantum computing right now

(*290283ee*):: Thanks for the link. Glad that some are paying attention. NCL is a likely foundation for the new architecture style.

(*290283ee*):: I own signed copies of the Fant books, I can lend if anyone is interested (they might not be easy to find or cheap)
(*290283ee*):: Do you have links or names? I want to look at this stuff again, I haven’t looked in a few years.
(*290283ee*):: The current power usage is becoming a real issue:

*** West London’s electric grid is reaching its limits. New home construction could be banned because of data centers’ energy usage.
