*** Dear All,
Pour one out for Sandy and my cat Whiskers aka Whisker Roo, who passed away yesterday at 3:50pm in McAllen. She was far too young, not even a full year old yet, and succumbed to a leukemia virus infection that we barely learned about last Tuesday. We thought we had months left with her and were mentally preparing for that, but little did we know she only had hours to live.
She was just a little cat, but she brought so much joy to us and was by Sandy’s side all the time during an especially difficult year. She was a stray kitten in my mom’s neighborhood that hung around the house. We eventually took her in from the cold and the freezes early this year and she became part of the family. I’m so glad that we were able to give her a warm, cozy and good life away from the cold even if it was short, and that God gave us the honor of knowing this beautiful soul. But He has other plans for her now.
If you guys have any pets, give them an extra hug today for us and for Whiskers. Life can change so quickly and when we least expect it. And if you have a moment, please pray for us because the shock and pain of this is really tough. We miss her so much and it’s been a really difficult process the last few days trying anything possible to save her. We came so close in some ways and had impossible hope beyond hope with a donor match and blood transfusion from Sandy’s other cat that initially worked, but the stress on her organs from her failing immune system and weakness leading to inability to ingest food was just too much to overcome. She was just a little cat but she had such a massive impact on us and losing her at this moment amid all the other difficult things going on in our lives is really tough to bear.
Love you all  -Joe
